Medicines Quality Control and Surveillance (MQCSD)

The Medicines Quality Control and Surveillance Department (MQCSD) is the only ISO/IEC 17025 accredited medicines quality control laboratory in the English-speaking Caribbean. MQCSD analyses medicines submitted by the National Medicines Regulatory Authorities/Ministries of Health of CARPHA member states to verify their conformance to international standards of quality and safety. The Department’s functions are mandated by the Agency’s Strategic Objective for Health Systems Strengthening, specifically medicines regulatory systems to ensure increased access to safe and effective medicines.

The Department’s work focuses on three major areas – risk-based post market surveillance of medicines circulating in regional markets, testing of medicines for national programmes and regional capacity building.
