CARPHA was established in 2011 as a public health agency by CARICOM Heads of Government and was launched in July 2013. It is a merger of five Regional Health Institutions: Caribbean Environmental Health Institute, Regional Drug Testing Laboratory, Caribbean Health Research Council, Caribbean Epidemiology Center, and the Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute. The merger enhances the depth and scope of support and prevents overlap of function.
