About Us

Mission

To integrate Public Health Laboratories in CARPHA Member States in order to strengthen national and regional laboratory services and enhance capacity for preparedness and response to existing problems and new public health emergencies.

Structure

The Secretariat of CariPHLN resides within the Laboratory Services and Networks department, CARPHA Headquarters based in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Specific Objectives

  • Promote the harmonization of codes, laws,regulations, systems, standards and protocols that facilitate integration, interventions and monitoring in the field of Public Health Laboratories of CARPHA Member States.
  • Promote collaboration among member states to strengthen capacity, surveillance and alert/response for early detection, characterization and coordinated response to outbreaks, environmental Health Regulations 2005.
  • Promote global health security as a regional priority in alignment with the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA), as an effort to accelerate progress towards a region that is safe and secure from infectious disease threats.
  • Coordinate the communication among countries, institutions, agencies, and other networks for the exchange of reliable information for effective and timely response.
  • Develop mechanisms among countries, institutions, agencies, and other networks for the exchange of reliable information for effective and timely response.

Thematic Networks

Thematic networks link as part of the overall public health network and benefit from as well as contribute to the CariPHLN initiatives to support the priority areas under CariPHLN. The priority areas of CariPHLN are intended to benefit all the public health laboratory networks that support disease prevention and control.

  • The Caribbean Regional Reference group for HIV lab services (CRRG-HLS) is an example of a functional and vibrant thematic network linked to CariPHLN.

Membership

CariPHLN is comprised of volunteers with a wealth of technical experience that allows for frequent collaborations with partners in the Caribbean Region. These experts provide technical advice and engage in quality improvement activities among CMS which are coordinated by the Secretariat. Members can access training documents and get responses to their technical queries in real time.
