Welcome to the Audiopedia Caribbean page!

Welcome to the place where the power of sound meets the power of public health!

Background

Audiopedia is an open-source audible learning platform and on this page, it has been customised for the Caribbean context by integrating content tailored to meet the needs of a Caribbean audience.

The project involved a Train the Trainer approach, where Health Communication and Promotion Professionals learnt innovative ways to use digital audio to develop and disseminate culturally appropriate health education messages. These messages were specifically focused on effecting social and behavior change as it relates to priority public health issues within Caribbean communities.

The project also focused on community engagement to ensure that representatives from the beneficiary communities were directly involved. Apart from other traditional media, Audiopedia will be used to disseminate these messages.

Our Vision

Audiopedia is where the power of partnerships and community engagement has been harnessed to help us achieve our vision of improving access to public health education in the CARPHA Member States.

This vision began with a strategic agreement between a few key agencies; CARPHA, the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

CARPHA worked with the Audiopedia Foundation to implement community-based projects in 5 CARPHA Member States:

Carpha - Encouraging Good Hand Hygiene

PSA - Diabetes Prevention Radio V4

My keen interest in this project is probably spurred by the fact that part of my childhood preceded Television, so, I know the value of sound. Unfortunately, modernity and technology sometimes caused separation and reduced accessibility to many things, including public health messages – which we hope to bridge through this project. This is an awesome opportunity for CARPHA to engage in such an exciting training and development exercise.
